Answers to the questions we hear most often.
Which olympiads does AOC prepare students for?
AOC Pakistan Chapter hosts the national rounds for eight international academic olympiads:
- International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL)
- International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)
- International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO)
- International Geography Olympiad (iGeo)
- International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO)
- International History Olympiad (IHO)
- International Logic Olympiad (ILO)
- International Tournament of Young Mathematicians (ITYM)
Each olympiad's page sets out its eligibility, format and syllabus. Pakistan's participation in each is subject to confirmation by that olympiad's organisers.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any student currently studying at a school in Pakistan can take part, as long as they meet the age and school rules of the olympiad they choose. Matric, O-Level, FSc and A-Level students are all welcome. The rules for each olympiad are:
- IOL: under 20 on the first day of the international olympiad and still at secondary school. University students are not eligible.
- IESO: a secondary-school student (Grades 9 to 12 or equivalent) aged 18 or under, who has not yet completed their final school examinations.
- IAO: born between 2007 and 2012 (inclusive) and still at school, without having completed final school examinations.
- iGeo: aged 16 to 19 on 1 August of the olympiad year and enrolled in secondary school.
- IPO: a secondary-school student under 20, able to write a philosophical essay in English, French, German or Spanish that is not their native language.
- IHO: open to primary and secondary-school students, who qualify through the History Bee and Bowl or the Olympiad Qualifying Exam.
- ILO: Junior division for Grades 6 to 8 (aged 11 to 14 on 1 January of the competition year); Senior division for Grades 9 to 12 (aged 14 to 18 on 1 January).
- ITYM: high-school students, competing as a team of 4 to 6.
You will be asked for proof of age (B-Form, CNIC or passport) and confirmation from your school that you are a current student.
How are students selected for a national team?
Selection for Team Pakistan happens in three stages:
- National Test: every registered student sits the national round, a remote recorded online test with invigilation controls.
- National Camp: the 10 highest-scoring students in the National Test are invited to the National Camp.
- Team Pakistan: after the camp, the team is chosen by the coaches and mentors, based on National Test performance, progress during the camp and a final presentation.
Team size is set by each olympiad's rules: up to 6 students for IAO, 4 for IESO and iGeo, teams of 4 for IOL, up to 2 for IPO, and 4 to 6 for ITYM. ILO is an individual competition and IHO has no fixed limit per country. National-round results are published by candidate number, and you may appeal within 7 days. Pakistan's participation is subject to confirmation by each olympiad's organisers, so a strong national result does not guarantee a place abroad.
How do I register my interest?
Use the "Register Now" button on any page. It opens AOC's registration form in Google Forms, where you choose the olympiad you want to sit. You will need to sign in with a Google account to submit it. Have these ready:
- Proof of age: B-Form, CNIC or a copy of your passport
- Confirmation from your school that you are a current student
- A consent form signed by a parent or guardian, if you are under 18
Any registration fee is shown on the form; a minimal administrative fee may apply. Registration dates for each olympiad are on the Calendar page. Once registered you receive a candidate number. Keep it safe, as results are published by candidate number, not by name.
Where can I see who AOC has sent to compete?
Each national team is listed on the Teams page once it has been confirmed, after the national round results and appeals. Teams for the 2026–27 season are still to be announced. The Alumni page covers past olympiads AOC students have taken part in, including the 18th International Earth Science Olympiad in Jining, China, in 2025.
